Education Think Tank, Africa Education Watch has called for enhanced security in schools located in the northern parts of Nigeria, following the recent kidnappings of over 400 students in the Government Science Secondary School in Katsina State.

Rebels from the Boko Haram group have claimed responsibility for abducting the boys last week in one of the largest such attacks in years, raising fears of a growing wave of violence in the region.

While the government says it is negotiating with the attackers for the release of the boys, the Africa Education Watch fears Nigeria’s pursuit of Universal Primary and Secondary Education cannot be achieved by 2030 if adequate security in schools is not prioritized by the government.

Executive Director of the group Nsa Kofi Asare spoke to WADR’s Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson.
