The regional – bloc, The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to receive eighty-one million euros or eighty-five million dollars from the German government.

Berlin says the funding will support the bloc’s campaign for peacebuilding and economic development.

The German Minister for Development Svenja Schulze stresses her government’s unwavering support to ECOWAS in dealing with the crisis West Africa faces.

Germany has until its withdrawal from Mali, contributed troops and logistics in the fight against insurgency and developmental projects in neighbouring Sahelian states.

But since the coup in Niger on July 26, Germany suspended its humanitarian aid to the country.
