At least twenty-six (26) Gambian migrants lost their lives on Sunday evening when their boat, bound for Europe, went missing at sea.
Another boat also capsized off the coast between Morocco and Spain. The migrants, primarily hailing from the Gambian villages of Barra, Essau, and Kanuma in the Lower Niumi District, NBR, faced this devastating fate during their perilous journey across the Atlantic Ocean in search of a better life.
This harrowing incident occurred as two migrant boats from Niumi deviated from their intended route to Europe.
Despite the hardships they faced, the boat’s captain managed to navigate to Spain with the aid of a compass and GPS director, ensuring their safe arrival.
It’s worth noting that the wooden fishing boat was initially carrying 89 individuals before it embarked on its journey to Europe.
