Victim-led groups in The Gambia have welcomed the U.S. court ruling that found former soldier Michael Sang Correa guilty of torture.
A Denver court convicted Correa on six counts of torture and conspiracy tied to abuses under ex-President Yahya Jammeh’s regime.
He was part of the feared “Junglers” unit, accused of targeting regime opponents two decades ago.
Victim advocate Sira Ndow said the verdict brings a sense of justice and closure to many survivors.
