The government of the Gambia has given instructions for the police to investigate the alleged bribery scandal at the Fisheries ministry.
Ebrima Sankareh, Government spokesman told The Standard Newspaper that the Government has directed that the matter be investigated.
A staff of the ministry identified by The Standard as PS Bamba Banja has been sent on administrative leave, pending the outcome of police investigations.
Banja has been in the media firestorm since an audio widely believed to be his voice in a telephone conversation with an unnamed minister discussing an alleged bribery transaction, was leaked and reported in the media.
