Gabonese voters head to the polls today, April 12, to elect a new president.

This marks the first election since the August 2023 coup that ended the Bongo family’s decades-long rule.

Interim President Brice Oligui Nguema, who led the coup, is among the eight candidates.

Over 860,000 citizens are expected to vote in this critical step toward democratic transition.
