The Ghana Commercial Bank branch at the Accra Central Business District has been gutted by a fire.
According to the Fire Service, the fire started around 11 am on Saturday, destroying the first floor of the storey building which contained stationary.
Though there were no casualties in this incident, the weekend’s fire marked the third large scale fire in the capital this month alone, sparking concerns about safety and preventive protocols, with others raising red flags that these incidents are coming a month to the December Presidential and parliamentary elections.
Executive director of the Bureau of public safety – Nana Yaw Akwada says, the interior minister should speak to the matter to dispel fears and beef up security especially at state installations to prevent any potential arson attacks.
