Economists and trade analysts have described the soon to be director general of the World Trade Organization Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as a fair and principled woman who will turn the organization around.
Okonjo-Iweala whose appointment is expected to be announced this week is Nigeria’s former finance minister with decades of experience in international trade and finance.
While holding dual citizenship (Nigerian and American) the 66 year old will be the first woman and the first African to occupy the position, with many saying this is a win for Africa and women.
Senior economist with SPN Professionals Paul Alaje has been telling WADR’s Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson what Okonjo-Iweala brings to the WTO.
