The Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has visited Mekele – the capital of the Tigray region in the northern part of country.
This is his first visit to the region since he ordered the Military offensive operation against the Tigray People Liberation Front TPLF forces after attacking a military command in the north.
The Prime minister also attended the first meeting of a new regional council.
Mr Abiy had earlier hosted talks with the prime minister of Sudan, where nearly 50,000 Tigrayan are seeking refuge.
A Sudanese official said Abdalla Hamdok was prepared to mediate in the conflict.
However, a statement by Mr Abiy made no mention of any such offer – though it said the Sudanese delegation had backed his actions in the northern region.
To confirm his visit to the Tigrayan capital, Mekelle, The Ethiopian prime minister has tweeted photos.
