ECOWAS member states have maintained sanctions imposed on Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso, three military-ruled countries in the volatile Sahel region.
The decision made over the weekend dashed the various military junta’s hopes of a return to the regional bloc.
ECOWAS has also decided to impose travel bans on government officials and senior leaders in those countries, during an extraordinary meeting on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa.
