The Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS is convening for another extraordinary summit in Abuja – Nigeria’s capital on Saturday.
The third of such conferences by the regional bloc this year will highlight the economic sanctions imposed on Niger after the July 26 coup and other arising matters.
The meeting also comes within the same week when a founding member of ECOWAS, former Nigerian President Yakubu Gowon appealed for the lifting of sanctions on the Sahelian countries of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.
