The Economic Community of West African States Ecowas, ECOWAS, during its 64th extraordinary summit, held in Nigeria’s capital of Abuja, acknowledged the growing threats to democracy in the subregion, despite concerted efforts by the bloc.

ECOWAS also acknowledged that despite concerted efforts, threats to democracy in the subregion continue to escalate

The bloc especially expressed concern about the proposal from some members to form the Sahelian Alliance.
