Tension is presumably mounting within the presidential camp after Senegalese President Macky Sall was given a free hand to designate a candidate for the next presidential election.
However, President Sall remains silent about his successor while names are circulating within his political family.
A meeting of the APR, his party, turned into a brawl on Tuesday following a clash between supporters of Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr, one of the party’s leaders, and those of Prime Minister Amadou Ba.
Ba had rejected an announcement by Diouf Sarr that they were both APR candidates for the presidential coalition.
Abdoulaye Mbow, a Senegalese political analyst, explains that the fracas within the presidential camp will continue right up to the presidential election.
