Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI) leader, Tidjane Thiam, has responded to questions about his nationality amid growing political tensions ahead of the upcoming elections. Speaking at a rally in Yopougon, Abidjan, over the weekend, Thiam reaffirmed his Ivorian identity and dismissed claims questioning his origins.
The controversy was sparked by remarks from Célestin Serey Doh, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Transport, who suggested that Thiam’s Ivorian roots were uncertain. The debate has since fueled political discussions, with supporters of the opposition leader viewing it as an attempt to discredit his candidacy.
