Chadian opposition leader Succes Masra, who recently returned to the country following an agreement with the ruling junta, has been designated as the prime minister of the transitional government.
The official announcement was conveyed in a decree broadcasted on state television early Monday afternoon by Mahamat Ahmad Alhabo, the Minister of State and Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic.
As Sankulleh Janko reports, Masra’s appointment is viewed by political experts as a potential gesture by the junta to reconcile with the opposition.
This comes in the wake of a constitutional referendum where a majority of opposition parties had advocated for either a boycott or voted against it.
