The Chadian government announced over the weekend that it will half the number of troops deployed in February to the G5 Sahel anti-jihadist force in the "three borders zone" of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.
It cited "a strategic redeployment" amid increasing attacks in parts of the country, targeting security and civilians alike.
Abderaman Koula-mallah, a government spokesman told AFP that the army as redeployed 600 men to Chad in agreement with the G5 Sahel forces.
According to him, this strategic redeployment was meant to best adapt to the organization of terrorists.
