The National Police (PN) of Cape Verde says it made over 75,000 seizures, of which 545 were firearms, in 17,000 raids between January and September 2022.
The national director of the National Police, Emanuel Estaline Moreno, on Wednesday said the figures were higher in the capital Praia. This is because it accounts for 66.8% of the 16,758 occurrences recorded at the national level.
The police director, who revealed this at a solemn session commemorating the 152nd anniversary of the creation of the Cape Verde Police Corps, now the National Police, said that 151,100 operations were carried out, including various surveillance actions and police interventions in general, 23% more compared to the same period.
He added that during the period under review, the Cape Verdean police also made 2,801 arrests, 9% more than last year, and 75,591 seizures. These included 545 firearms and 4,709 rounds of ammunition.
