Cabo Verde wants to privatise nine public companies by 2026

The Cape Verdean government says it plans to privatise or lease nine companies from the public sector, by 2026, from telecommunications and transport to banking.

According to a resolution of the Council of Ministers that repeals the previous list, 2017, new list of companies of the Public Business Sector (SEE) "liable to privatization / partial disposal / licensing / concession" or public-private partnerships, includes the bank Caixa Económica de Cabo Verde, one of the largest in the country.

The cabnave shipyards, CV Handling and tacv airline, in this case, privatised in 2019 and renationalised in 2021 due to the consequences of the covid-19 pandemic, but also the Cape Verde Telecom group, remain on the list five years ago.

In the resolution, which enters into force today, Friday, provides, at the level of the modalities for these privatisations, to be carried out "as a rule, by means of a public tender or public subscription.
