In response to growing concerns about press freedom, the government of Burkina Faso has opened dialogue with media owners to reaffirm its support for professional journalism. The meeting, held on May 5, comes at a time when the country has slipped from 86th to 105th in the 2025 Reporters Without Borders press freedom rankings.
Burkinabe Minister of Communications, Gilbert Ouédraogo, assured media executives that the government remains committed to a free and responsible press, especially during the ongoing security crisis.
Cyriaque Paré, publishing director of the news site Lefaso.net, welcomed the engagement, describing it as a “constructive step” toward restoring trust between the state and the media sector.
