The Beninese government Monday clarified the reason for the deployment of the army to the disputed northern border after alleged criticisms in Burkina Faso.
The legal fight for the control of Kourou – Kaolou localities by the two neighboring countries is before the International Court of Justice but currently hosting troops from Benin on a counter-offensive operation against insurgents.
Beninese government spokesman Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji said despite the tensions in Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou was informed about the deployment to the border towns.
