Benin’s former police chief, Louis Philippe Houndegnon, may face two years in prison as the state prosecutor pushes for sentencing.
Houndegnon, a vocal critic of the current government, is on trial for inciting rebellion and harassment through a communication system.
His arrest adds to growing concerns over shrinking civic space and the crackdown on dissent in the country.
The case is being heard by the Court for the Suppression of Economic Offences and Terrorism.
