Benin’s court for economic offenses and terrorism (CRIET) has upheld a 10-year sentence for former Immigration Service chief Florent Agbo.

Agbo was convicted in January 2023 of issuing Beninese passports to Cameroonian nationals. He received a fine of 5 million CFA francs as well.

Agbo’s lawyers say they will appeal to the Supreme Court.

Agbo was previously convicted in 2022 of “abuse of office” for the same alleged passport issuance.

Six Cameroonian nationals were caught at the airport using the passports to travel to Ecuador.

They were sentenced to 3 years in prison and banned from Benin for ten years.
