A Nigerian woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by Benin’s Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET) after being found guilty of drug trafficking.
She was arrested at the Cotonou International Airport in possession of a significant quantity of cocaine hidden inside her suitcase. Authorities say the drugs were discovered during a routine security check.
Alongside the prison term, the court also imposed a financial penalty of ten million CFA francs. The judgment underscores Benin’s commitment to cracking down on drug-related offenses.
CRIET was established to handle serious crimes, including economic and terrorism-related cases. Its rulings carry weight across the West African region.
