The edition of the programme spotlights the Kankurang rites practiced in Senegal, Gambia and Guinea Bissau.
It is believed that the Jola and Mandinka people of Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia and Senegal use to create one of their traditional masks, the kankourang, a mythical being, guardian of the their most deeply rooted values and customs.
Over in Nigeria’s south eastern region, a colourful fanfare heralds the New Yam festival celebrated annually by the Igwe (king) to thank God and the ancestors for a bumper harvest and make supplications for the protection, good health, and prosperity of the people.
