Mining contributes to development through the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs for host Communities and the general public at large. In 2011, the mining companies, according to the government, spent 24 million dollars on CSR projects. However, the impact of destruction and challenges, lack of the most basic of amenities that confront these communities far outweigh the CSR projects advanced to these communities.
In this report, Eugene Osei-Tutu of our partner station, Focus FM in the Ashanti region looks at whether mining is helping local communities to develop.
