Amnesty International has called on Malian authorities to withdraw a controversial proposal to dissolve all political parties. The organization expressed deep concern over what it describes as an escalating crackdown on civic freedoms.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Amnesty labeled the move a serious threat to human rights and democratic participation. It warned that such actions target critics, activists, and opposition members alike.

The proposal, if enacted, would effectively silence dissent and further shrink Mali’s already fragile civic space. Amnesty urged the government to uphold international obligations to protect political freedoms.

Rights groups across the region have echoed similar concerns, calling for immediate dialogue and the restoration of democratic norms.
