As the world marks the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, concerns over media safety remain high. Speaking during the November 2 commemoration, UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned of rising violence, arbitrary arrests, and targeted killings of journalists worldwide.
In Francophone Africa, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is echoing the alarm. The organisation is calling for stronger protections and accountability as attacks on media workers continue to rise.
Moussa Ngom, a CPJ representative, is urging governments to safeguard press freedom, stressing that impunity only fuels further violence against journalists.
