A Dakar Court will tomorrow Thursday, December 14 decide on the eligibility status of opposition leader Ousmane Sonko.

The verdict earlier expected on Tuesday, would determine Sonko’s reinstatement on the electoral register after his name was struck out by the electoral umpire months ago following the government’s directive.

Incarcerated since July for insurrection and acts constituting national security threats, Sonko’s chances of participating in the February 2024 Presidential election remain slim.

Efforts by his supporters and the now dissolved political party – PASTEF to fulfil all electoral requirements ahead of the poll have been rejected including an attempt to deposit 45,000 euros with the consignment office.

The court’s decision on Thursday holds the key to Ousmane Sonko’s candidacy in the 2024 presidential elections – an aspiration he accuses the ruling government of truncating after it weaponized the judiciary against him.
