Mali’s political class is divided over the creation of a structure called The Support Committee.

This new body will assist the independent election management authority in organizing the upcoming referendum.

The support committee is the result of an initiative by the Ministry of Territorial Administration.

Within the political class, some fear interference by the Ministry of Territorial Administration in the affairs of the independent election management body via the support committee.

The committee will be responsible for financially supporting the independent election management authority in human resources and materials for a better organization of the referendum.

It comprises 22 members from ministries, departments, and other state structures.

As a reminder, the constitutional referendum is scheduled for June 18.
