The trial of the 28 September 2009 massacre in Guinea saw two new witnesses come forward on Wednesday.

Mamoudou Conté and Thierno Mamadou Diallo both claimed to have been victims of assault and battery, as well as other forms of violence, during the 2009 massacre.

Conté, an activist of the Union of Republican Forces party, recounted how he and his colleagues were trying to mobilize from Matam to rally at the big stadium in Conakry but encountered obstacles along the way. When they eventually reached the stadium, soldiers arrived and began attacking protesters.

Conté claims he saw soldiers slitting the throats of some demonstrators and also witnessed women being manhandled inside the Palais des Sports.

Diallo, who was also a victim of assault and battery, was arrested and later released after giving money.

The hearing will resume next Monday.
