Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has come under criticism for not addressing the brutalizing of civilians by soldiers during Wednesday’s State of the Nation Address.
On Tuesday, soldiers in uniform stormed parts of Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra, and were filmed whipping residents and inflicting other forms of abuse on them.
The Ghana Armed Forces 24 hours later, defended the operation saying it was merely a swoop in a man-hunt for suspects involved in the murder of a young soldier there over the weekend.
