Polls have opened in Nigeria’s general elections seen as the most unpredictable since Africa’s most populous nation switched from military rule to democracy in 1999.

Nigeria is Africa’s most populated country and largest democracy and is electing a president, vice president, Senate and House of Representatives members today.

Polls opened at 07:30 GMT and will close at 13:30 GMT.

Over 93 million people are registered voters.

The electorate will be choosing a successor to President Muhammadu Buhari who assumed power in 2015 and has served two tenures spanning eight years.
