The Accra Initiative countries including Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Togo, on Tuesday, agreed to operationalize a multinational joint task force to curb terrorism and violent extremism in the region.

This agreement was reached after two days of meetings in Accra to discuss terrorism and worsening security in the region.

Addressing the maiden high-level counter-terrorism conference of the Accra Initiative, Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo said it has become imperative for member states to collaborate to counter rising levels of terrorism.

He added that member states will own the initiative but will require their foreign partners to support them.

Highlighting the decisions taken at the end of the summit, Executive Secretary of Accra Initiative Ben Dere added that the member states recommended fundraising for the countries deeply affected by terrorism.
