The Guinean government says at least 24 people were killed in a traffic accident on Sunday afternoon on the Kindia-Mamou national road, in the district of Hamdallaye located 5 kilometres from the sub-prefecture of Souguéta (west).

According to the authority, this is a "provisional assessment, adding that it was "a minibus carrying several students" that "collided with a truck".

Elhadj Kabinet Kaké, vice mayor of the rural commune of Linsan, said for the moment, they cannot ascertain the real cause of this accident.

The Guinean government announced that "an investigation is opened" to shed light on this tragedy.

Last June, a black series of accidents on Guinean roads caused about thirty deaths, many injuries and significant material damage.

This series of accidents is due to the defective state of the roads, the obsolescence of the vehicles and the indiscipline of the drivers.
