Interview: Prosecutors seek life sentence for ex-Liberian in France trial

The trial of an alleged former rebel commander in Liberia’s first civil war that opened in Paris – France on October 10, 2022, is in its final phase.

Over two dozen witnesses and victims have so far testified before the court.

Kunti K 48 years old, was the former commander of the United Liberation Movement of Liberia for Democracy (ULIMO), a rebel group that was active during the country’s first civil war from 1989 to 1996.

Arrested in Paris by the French police in 2018, the former rebel was indicted for crimes including torture, sexual violence and barbaric acts such as cannibalism.

As the hearing comes to end, prosecutors suggest that Kunti K be sentenced to life imprisonment.
