A court in Liberia has dropped criminal charges against the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission Davidetta Brown Lasannah.
Lasannah was accused of among other things, money laundering, insider trading, market manipulation, and conflict of interest after she reportedly awarded contracts to her family members
On Thursday, Criminal Court C Judge Ciapha Carey granted the motion to dismiss the case on grounds that the court lacks jurisdiction over the matter.
According to him, the matter should have been forwarded to the Ombudsman which he says have jurisdiction to investigate alleged violations of the code of conduct and not the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission or LACC.
While state lawyers are appealing the dismissal at the Supreme Court, WADR’s Darlington Porkba has been sampling the views of Liberians.
