Wilmar Africa Limited, producers of Frytol Vegetable Oil and Fortune Rice, has announced the closure of its manufacturing plant. According to the company, its decision follows government’s introduction of the duty discount on benchmark value policy in 2019, which has made it difficult for it to compete with cheaper products imported into the country.
Meanwhile, some worker unions in the agricultural sector are worried that government’s duty discount on benchmark values could result in massive layoffs in the coming days.
