The UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ilze Brands Kehris says the deteriorating security situation in Mali must be urgently addressed through a holistic approach that tackles impunity, upholds human rights.
Brands Kehris visited Mali from November 1-6 to meet with a wide range of stakeholders on the human rights situation and priorities in Mali and the Sahel region.
She particularly focused on the protection of civilians and the fight against impunity, including in the southern regions of Mali, as well as on support to the G5-Sahel Joint Force for the implementation of its Framework for compliance with human rights and international humanitarian law.
