The Nigerien Minister of Defense has visited soldiers deployed to the troubled Diffa region.
It is hoped that the weekends visit to the region on the border with Nigeria will boost staff morale as the men operating in this region are constantly under pressure from Boko Haram
The Minister of Defense was accompanied by the Governor of the Diffa region, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the High Commander of the National Gendarmerie and other regional officials of the Defense and Security Forces.
In recent weeks, the region has recorded victories in the fight against Boko Haram, especially in the towns of Diffa and Bosso on the border with Nigeria. On May 28, the defense and security forces successfully repelled an assault. The terrorists however recorded several casualties.
After a working session with the command of sector 4 of the multinational mixed force, extended to the regional military hierarchy, Alkassoum Indatou visited the storage facilities where the weapons, ammunition and vehicles recovered during the attack were stored.
The Nigerien defense minister also went to encourage and congratulate the elements of the detachment who are securing the power station of the electricity company, Nigelec, in Diffa.
Alkassoum Indatou and his delegation also visited the Bagara sector, a key entry point to Diffa from the Nigerian border, as well as the Doutchi Bridge which also borders with Nigeria.
