The Executive Director African Centre for Health Policy Research and Analysis, Dr Thomas Anabah has called for a probe into the surge in COVID-19-positive arrivals at the Kotoka International Airport.
It follows concerns raised by Frontiers Health Services, managers of Ghana’s COVID-19 airport testing programme, about the high rate of positive cases landing on Ghanaian soil recently.
The company, in a letter to the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, said that it recorded 75 positive cases on Saturday, 24 April 2021, which is the highest daily number of positive COVID-19 cases at the airport.
This precedes the previous highest rate of 45 cases.
The company appealed to stakeholders to implement stringent measures on the quality of PCR results acceptable for entry into the country.
Speaking to WADR’s Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson, Dr. Anabah noted that the country risks a general increase in cases if the matter is not appropriately handled.
