Lawyers for Beninese academic Joel Aivo say it is still unclear what their client is accused of since his hearing at the end of last week.

 The collective set up to defend Aivo maintains that it has no concrete idea of what will be brought up to judge the 47-year-old, since the charges have evolved between his arrest and the day he was detained.

 Previously, the collective said Joel was arrested for incitement to violence and to illicit violations.

Several other members of the opposition are also in detention facing trial after their arrest on similar charges following this month’s controversial election in Benin.

Their arrests have been met with mixed reviews both in Benin and abroad.
