A Lawmaker from The Gambia, Fatmata Njai has called on the ECOWAS parliament to reject lists from member states that fall short of the thirty percent women’s representation.
Speaking on the side lines of the Opening Ceremony of the Fifth Legislature’s delocalized meeting of the Joint Committee on Social Affairs, Gender and Women Empowerment / Education, Science and Culture/Health, in Monrovia, Liberia, Ms Njai noted that while the Conference of Bureau in the ECOWAS Parliament is required to have 1/3 women representation, some countries fail to meet it. She spoke to journalist, Melvin Tejan Mansaray.
