The regional bloc, ECOWAS, says its observers will be in Benin to supervise the April 11 elections.

It said in a statement on Sunday that it is sending 90 observers, ten of whom have already made the trip to Cotonou for a period of 25 days.

According to the body, the observers will remain in Cotonou until the second round of the election if no candidate wins on the night of April 11.

About 6 million voters will go to the polls on Sunday, April 11, for the first round of the presidential election to decide between three pairs of candidates, two of whom claim to be from the opposition.

This will be the seventh democratic presidential election since February 1990.
