Burkina Faso, Senegal secure key posts in West African monetary bloc

The Conference of Heads of State of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) decided on Thursday to entrust the presidency of the Union Commission to the candidate proposed by Senegal.

A press release on the 22nd ordinary session of the Heads of State says the appointment of the members of the Commission, on the proposal of the Heads of State and Government will take place no later than May 1, 2021".

Under the chairmanship of Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte d'Ivoire, current President of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of UEMOA, the Conference met in ordinary session by videoconference on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the President of Burkina Faso, Rock-Marc Christian Kaboré, was appointed as the new president of the Conference of Heads of State and Government.
