Liberia: Political tension rises over arrest of opposition figures

In Liberia, the political climate has been tensed for days since the launch of an investigation against representative Francis Nyumalin and Secretary general of the former ruling Unity Party Mo Ali over inciteful statements and acts capable of destabilizing the state.

On Monday, State securities announced that they were investigating two opposition figures who reportedly used insightful comments to threaten the peace of the country.

In the turn of events, opposition member – Ali, was on Thursday arrested and detained and will appear before a court over allegations of terrorism and acts against the state.

Spokesperson of the Liberia National police – Moses Carter, addressed the press on Thursday on findings that led to arrest, saying the peace of the country is non – negotiable.

The police spokesperson further warned of any criminal act against the state.
