The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday launched a new report that represents the largest study ever conducted on the prevalence of violence against women.

The study was undertaken by the WHO in partnership with UN women with funding support from the United Kingdom.

The report includes data from 158 countries on intimate partner violence and sexual violence by a non-partner, for women and girls aged 15 years and older.

According to the health of the WHO Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the results paint a horrifying picture.

He said that an estimated 736 million women – almost one in three women globally – have suffered intimate partner violence at least once in their lives. He spoke during the virtual launch of the report.
