The World Health Organization (WHO) says despite the discovery and distribution of the covid19 vaccines underway, the world’s population needs to embrace the safety protocols even more.
Speaking at the agency’s daily briefing Monday, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus explained that the more transmission continues, the higher the chances of the virus mutating.
Ghebreyesus disclosed that the UN health body is partnering with health experts and supporting countries in genetic sequencing to understand the new variant.
He said already, health facilities in low-income countries are at the point of collapse but can be prevented, if governments strengthen their health mechanisms in the fight against the disease.
The WHO Boss reiterated the need for strict compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines by all.
