Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio came to power in 2018, promising to tackle corruption in the public sector.
He has since appointed commissions to probe the financial dealings of his predecessor, Ernest Bai Koroma and his government.
But a recent report published by the country’s Auditor General that details how millions of dollars have so far been mismanaged or stolen under the administration of Bio, raises doubts about the president’s commitment to the fight against corruption.
According to the findings of the report, over 178 Billion Leones cannot be accounted for or is missing, with tens of Billions more, yet to be verified.
