In Mauritania, some 50 former senators of the defunct Upper House of the bi-cameral parliament abolished on 15 August 2017 following a constitutional referendum are calling for the restoration of this chamber of parliament.

They described the dissolution of the chamber as illegal and called on the new government to take steps to restore the senate.
