At least nine Nigerian soldiers were killed by a mine explosion as their convoy passed through northeastern Nigeria, a region plagued by violence from jihadist groups.
The incident occurred Monday near Malam Fatori, on the border with Niger, where a large military garrison is based, sources told AFP on condition of anonymity.
One solder told the agency that he lost nine colleagues in the incident.
A militiaman working alongside the Nigerian army said the convoy was carrying food from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, when the lead vehicle hit the explosive device.
